The distribution exercises was held at Abuko Abattoir on Wednesday and attended by Islamic Scholars.
However, Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice is the most important feast in the Muslim calendar. It celebrates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ishmael in submission to Allah's command before he was stopped by Allah and replaced his son with a Ram. Since then the tradition remains the same.
Sheick Omar Faba Gitteh, said sacrificing an animal is considered an essential part of the Islamic feast of Idul-Adha, adding that distributing the meat among people is an integral part of the teachings of Islamic.
He added that making your fellow Muslim happy has more reword than staying and praying in the mosque for the period of one month.
Sheick Aliue Cham, Founder of Imam Dhahabi Charitable Foundation said the aim of his organisation is to support the less privileged in the country.
He added that he founded the organisation while studying in Saudi Arabia, noting that his partners used to give him funs to drill boreholes, construct mosques and distribute food items to the needy in The Gambia while on holidays.
"This year's Tobaski we are distributing 550 Rams to Gambians and it can go beyond that before Tobaski day," he said.
Al-amin Njie, a beneficiary thanked the initiator and his partners for the gesture and called on other Gambians to emulate him.
Sheick Abdulkrime Al-Qashami from Saudi Arabia said Gambia and Saudi Arabia has a strong relationship and for that they supported Gambia people during the Eid al-Adha feast.
