The initiative, which comes into force this month, ensures that all Hansen Seafood employees are covered under a comprehensive health insurance scheme fully funded by the company. The move represents a major step forward in improving working conditions and access to healthcare within the sector.
Speaking on the development, Hansen Seafood management said the decision reflects the company’s belief that a healthy workforce is essential to sustainable growth and long-term success.
“At Hansen Seafood, our people are our greatest asset. Providing medical health insurance is part of our responsibility to ensure that our staff feel protected, valued, and supported,” the company stated.
To mark the occasion, a group photograph of staff holding their insurance cards was taken in front of the Hansen Seafood facility, symbolizing the company’s commitment to employee well-being and shared progress.
The health insurance initiative adds to a range of worker-focused benefits already provided by Hansen Seafood, including permanent employment contracts with full legal rights, paid annual leave, six months of paid maternity leave, an on-site medical clinic with a doctor, company-provided meals, transportation support, and a newly built mosque at the facility.
Industry observers have described the move as a positive example for other companies in the fish processing sector, noting that it sets a new benchmark for employee welfare in The Gambia.
Hansen Seafood continues to position itself as a leader not only in seafood processing and export quality, but also in responsible employment practices, community engagement, and sustainable development.
