The expo seeks to promote healthy food consumption and boost local foods to enhance socio-economic growth.
At a recent presser ahead of the event, Peter Mendy, head of Department for Research and Consultancy at the institute, said the event is aimed at promoting Gambian local produce.
“The event will provide important exposure for food and businesses because over the years, we’ve been having other trade fairs, but this one is going to be special. And it is going to import food businesses to come and showcase their products to potential buyers.” he said.
“Our main objective is to come up with healthy food option by promoting local foods and eating of organic foods. We believe that if you want to make our population healthy, we need to promote and sensitise the people on the importance of local food consumption.” he added.
Fatoumatta Sillah, communication officer at GTHI, said the event will also accord local food producers the opportunity to network and learn with international chefs.
Maimuna Dibba, research assistant at GTHI, echoed similar remarks, while calling for more avenues to showcase and promote Gambian foods to the outside world.
