The visit was part of a peace mission tour accompanied by a delegation to strengthen peace and unity in the Southern Senegalese province of Cassamance.
Speaking at a closed-door meeting held at the Senegalese Embassy at Pipeline along the Kairaba Avenue, Ambassador Bassirou Sene underscored the importance of the visit, saying King Niokhobaye Fat Diene Diouf is one of the pillars of Senegal.
Ambassador Sene informed the visiting King and delegation that ‘if we were’ informed earlier prior to the visit, they would have prepared a befitting welcome for him and delegation.
“I am so much overwhelmed being a Serrer and to have an institution such as you in our midst.”
The visit, he added, is the first of its kind for such a great leader to him at the Embassy.
Ambassador Sene reminded that the king’s interventions in Senegal and visit does not only limit or represent the Serrer ethnic people, but to the entire people of Senegal and on behalf of President Macky Sall.
He thus thanked President Barrow for his hospitality towards foreigners, particulars the Senegalese community in The Gambia.
“Senegalese citizens are accorded freedom in The Gambia which allows them to confidently operate in their various daily businesses.”
The Senegalese diplomat dwelled on the cordial ties that bind the two nations, noting that Senegal and Gambia are of the same families and have a lot in common.
For his part, King Niokhobaye Fat Diene Diouf applauded Ambassador Sene for the warn reception accorded him and delegation.
He lauded the Senegalese top diplomat for strongly representing Senegalese in The Gambia and ensuring that they live harmoniously with Gambians.
