The KMC Mayor made these remarks during an official handing over of donated ambulances and fire service vehicles by Ebou Mala Children Charity Foundation to his Council and other institutions at a ceremony held at the KMC premises.
He added that the country has limited ambulances to respond to emergency situations.
Mayor Bensouda said the Kanifing Municipal Council has the vision to transform the landscapes of the council through intervention of other sectors such as environment, sanitation, health, education and community development.
“The fire and rescue services are doing a valuable job in trying to combat fires, but population growth, poor physical planning, and poor electrical wiring are all contributing to the increase in fire incidents,” he noted.
“The Council's main objective is to support the overall improvement of the quality of life for the people within its borders,” he stated, adding that the country faces many challenges with limited resources and a small economy.
“The country also lacks tools to respond to emergency situations such as fire, policing and security services,” he further said.
On the issue of the security sector, the KMC Mayor explained that security concern in the country at the moment is in a critical state, saying they need the necessary support to improve their capacity to ensure they combat crimes and make our communities safe.
