Under the visionary leadership of Ms Ndey Fatou Jabang, Founder and CEO of Flex Fuzion Entertainment and Dance Academy, and President of the African Committee of the World Federation of Acrobatic Dance and Dance Sports, three talented Gambian dancers proudly represented their nation at an elite international summer dance training programme in Moscow.

The participation of these performers marks another significant milestone in The Gambia’s growing presence on the global dance stage.

Ms Yasai Joof, The Gambia’s first certified coach in Acrobatic Rock ‘n’ Roll, alongside dancers Daniel Taylor and Mariama Camara, are currently undergoing intensive training in various disciplines including modern dance, jazz, acrobatic rock ‘n’ roll, acro-swing, gymnastics, and classical ballet. All three are acclaimed lead performers from the Flex Fuzion Dance Academy.

The summer programme, which runs until 14 July 2025, is being hosted by the World Federation of Acrobatic Dance and Dance Sports, and bringing together top talent from across the world for rigorous artistic and athletic development.

This is not the first time the trio has drawn global attention to Gambian dance. In 2024, they represented The Gambia at the Acrobatic Rock ‘n’ Roll World Championship in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and again in March 2025 at the World Cup in Dakar, Senegal, where they reached the semi-finals, a ground breaking achievement for the country.

Speaking from Moscow, team leader Yasai Joof expressed her pride in representing The Gambia:

“This training is a dream come true. It enables me to sharpen my skills and return home better equipped to coach and mentor the next generation of Gambian dancers. I’m deeply grateful to Flex Fuzion for believing in us and for continuously pushing boundaries.”

Flex Fuzion’s founder, Ms Jabang, also shared reflections on the academy’s journey:

“Establishing a professional dance brand in The Gambia has come with countless challenges. But today, I see the impact. We’ve built international bridges for our youth to grow, shine, and lead. This academy is not just a company, it’s creating careers, breaking barriers, and elevating The Gambia on the global cultural map.”

She extended her appreciation to those who helped make the Moscow trip a reality, including Hon. Lamin Manga, Consul of the Russian Federation in The Gambia; the President of the World Federation of Acrobatic Dance and Dance Sports; and both the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture for their ongoing support.

According to Mr Hassoum Ceesay, Director General of the NCAC: “Flex Fuzion’s presence in such a globally respected training programme is a proud moment for our nation. It showcases the rise of Gambian dance and illustrates how cultural exchange continues to strengthen diplomatic and artistic ties between The Gambia and the Russian Federation.”

He added that with each international milestone, Flex Fuzion Entertainment and Dance Academy is not only empowering Gambian youth through the performing arts, but is also securing The Gambia’s place on the world dance stage.
