Young Gambian scholar and creative writer, Modou Lamin Sowe, whose pen name is Modou Lamin Age-Almusaf Sowe,  has been elected into the Africa Youth Advisory Board under the African Union Commission.

He was appointed as a Board Member (West Africa) of the Africa Youth Advisory Board on Disaster Risk Reduction (AYAB) under the African Union Commission (AUC) during the recently concluded orientation session of the board held at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Africa Youth Advisory Board (AYAB) for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), hereafter referred to as the board or AYAB, was established under the African Union Commission (AUC) to meaningfully engage young Africans (up to 35 years old) in DRR processes on the continent.

The African continent has suffered disproportionately from the increasing occurrence of climate exacerbated disasters because of its high exposure and high vulnerability to climate shocks. The first batch of AYAB was inaugurated on May 6, 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya. Since then, members have carried out various initiatives and activities to either empower or meaningfully engage youth in DRR processes on the African continent.

Modou Lamin Age-Almusaf Sowe has written five books: Don't Judge the Book by the Cover (novel), The Throne of the Ghost (play), The Memories of Reflection (novella), AfriKa Not AfriCa (poetry collection), and TWAWEZA (an anthology of 24 Non-fiction African Stories published by the African Writers Development Trust).

He was awarded the African Literature Award 2021–2022, presented to him by the International Association of African Authors and Scholars (IAAAS), based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

His drama book, The Throne of The Ghost, was listed by the Pan-African Writers Association as the book of the month in May 2022. His poetry collection, AfriKa Not AfriCa, was awarded the Wergle Flomp Humor Poetry Award in 2020 by the Winning Writers based in Texas, USA.

ML Sowe is a literary activist and a sustainable development and climate change champion. He promotes SDG Goal number 4, 11, and 13.
