Momodou Alieu Jallow was elected Deputy National Youth Chairperson.
The Youth Commission advises The Gambia Red Cross Society board on all matters concerning youth and youth-related activities and ensures young people have a voice on the board.
Alasan Senghore, Secretary General of The Gambia Red Cross Society expressed appreciation to thevolunteers for the work done over the past 3 years. He also expressed appreciation to their management for the support, collaboration and partnership over the past 3 years.
He noted that today The Gambia Red Cross Society is a household name when it comes to any service delivery in the country due to their commitment.
“Covid-19 was a very unfortunate pandemic but where leadership is tested, is in difficult and challenging situation,” he stated, saying as Gambia Red Cross together they succeededin saving and protecting lives of people as well as in building a strong institution with competent people that are reliable to move into the next century.
“You cannot be a leader if you do not have a vision,” he highlighted, noting that the humanitarian environment is becoming more challenging with the effects of Covid-19, Ukraine-Russia conflict and climate change.
He added that the bigger they get the more demands they have but pointed out that they have to make sure they sustain and build on the gains made.
“This is not the time to relent, celebrate and/or relax but a time to reflect on how to consolidate what we have achieved so far,” he said further.
The told the Youth Commission that the assembly was decisive to the future of The Gambia Red Cross Society and therefore appealed to them to work together and put the National Society, vulnerable people and their needs and services at the centre of their thinking and discussions.
Ismaila Sonko, National Youth Chairperson for The Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS) Youth Commission said there are challenges but that should not stop them from serving humanity.
He called on youth to ensure they are accountable. He also thanked GRCS management, board and commission members for their commitment.
Jato Sillah, President of The Gambia Red Cross Society described Red Cross volunteers as the pillar of their success.
He told the Youth Commission that their decision will shape the future of the National Society and therefore urged them to maintain the respect GRCS is known for.
He commended Mr Senghore for reviving The Gambia Red Cross Society and making it one of the best globally, saying the National Society was almost dying when they approached him.
