The book would be the second instalment of his ‘Memories of a Gambian Child’ series, following his successful hit ‘Mischievous Mosquitoes of Banjul’ in November 2022.
The ’Mischievous Mosquitoes of Banjul’ (co-authored by Saffie Jagne), the first of the five books of the series being published under his MoBooks brand, won the children’s literature category of 2023 BookFest Awards. The sequel is being edited by Saul Njie and published by FyeN Publishing.
Born and bred in The Gambia before he moved to the United States in 1989, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Holy Names University in Oakland, Ndow works as a records coordinator for a law firm in San Francisco and has over 20 years of experience working in records at San Francisco Law Firms.
He is also passionate about community work and was a mentor for at-risk kids in the San Francisco Unified School District for 6 years. He was, thus, recognised for his contribution to the community with the Caesar Chavez Peace Award in 2014.
In the new book, Move: Slouching Towards Bakau, Momodou is sent away to live with his uncle in the nearby town of Bakau. Unbeknownst to Momodou that the Banjul Mosquito Forces have learned that Momodou disclosed their biting playbook to the entire city of Banjul, and now he must pay. Will the Force get their revenge on Momodou or will Momodou outsmart them in Bakau?
The book also has a new mosquito character, Cheppeh, a young lady. She is a studious young lady from Banjul Central who made a name for herself in Banjul.
