A key player in the art and entertainment industry, Thelia Production organises yearly Mobile and Digital Economy Summit and Expo to showcase the relevance of technology and promote digital economy.
It presents the annual AfriTech Awards to recognise and celebrate individuals, government ministries and agencies, corporate and religious organisations employing mobile, digital and technology platforms for their operations and services in Africa.
Speaking to the media at a press conference held on Wednesday at Sarge’s Hotel in Senegambia, Thelia Production’s CEO Daniel Moore, said: “The AfriTech Awards evolved from the Sierra Tech Awards after four consistent successful years of creating a unique platform that is annually identifying and celebrating Organizations and Individuals who continue to strive in providing products and services to the general populace in a bid to bridge the digital divide between Africa and the advanced economies employing technology.”
Mr Moore, who is accompanied by a team of maestros including IB Blog CEO Ibrahim Jawara - a Gambian, added that the team has decided to take this awards and recognition to a regional level by including other African countries so they can also “create opportunities for networking and collaborations” between economies within the region.
“We are happy to confirm that for this year’s AfriTech Awards we have 10 categories,” CEO Moore outlines, saying the categories are Game Changer Awards, Banking and Finance, Software Companies, Payment Platforms, Entertainment, Government, Education, Bloggers, Tech Influencers, and New Media.
He said that although The Gambia’s population is small compared to other countries, the country has “great minds and technologically sound professionals”.
“Hosting this event in The Gambia will help throw light on these great minds and their works to a larger sphere of influence and create new synergies which hopefully can produce new markets and further enrich the African continent in tech exchange ventures,” he said, adding: “As we celebrate our 5th year honouring individuals, government agencies, private sector and religious organizations, we invite you to join us in shining light on The Gambia as well as nations predominantly in the West Africa Zone 2 area.”
According to Mr Moore, the Special Guests of Honour include Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to The Gambia and other dignitaries from The Gambia, and the Keynote Speaker is the Secretary General of the West Africa Bankers Association (WABA).
The WABA Secretary General, Alhagie Jeng, who also spoke to the media, said: “Taking this awards event across the border to Banjul is a show of Pan-African spirit; so let’s support the Awards; let’s come to the event to witness this fifth edition of the awards. These people love The Gambia; they have been doing it successfully from the first to the fourth edition and are now crossing border; so let’s support them.”
According to AfriTech Awards Gambia representative, Milton Kamanda, the event on Friday commences with a Red Carpet and networking session at 7pm and the Dinner and Awards kicks off at 8pm.
