The gesture from the Gambian philanthropist has been welcomed by many as it will go a long way in ensuring that the corpse is returned back to the country for proper burial.
The deputy head of mission in London, Suntou Touray, wrote: “The Gambia High Commission in London is happy to announce that they have received assistance from Gambian philanthropic businessman Mr. Abubacarr Jawara in repatriating the late Buba Camara, also known as Buba Jawara, back to The Gambia.”
It could be recalled that Touray appealed for help with the repatriation of the deceased, thus Mr. Jawara generously pledged to cover half of the remaining balance of the cost.
“On behalf of Her Excellency, Dr. Fatou Bensouda, the High Commissioner and staff, Gambian community leaders in Vienna, and the family of the deceased person, we express our deep appreciation to Mr. Abubacar Jawara for his kind gesture.”
The deputy head of mission further added: “This means a lot to the mother of the deceased who wishes to pay her final respects to her son in The Gambia.”
