The awardees hail from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The awardees are studying architecture, mathematics, physics, agricultural science, information systems, biology, chemistry and nursing.
The beneficiaries were chosen from different regions. Amongst them were mothers as well. The first lady’s mission is human capacity building in STEM especially women to be agents for change and better development.
Halimatou Jallow, one of the beneficiaries thanked the first lady for the life-changing opportunity and pledged to make her proud. Lucy Gomez, a student majoring in architecture at UTG also spoke on the same lines.
“I was very worried about my tuition fees. But now that I have the scholarship, I am thrilled. Even though society does not see us worthy, the First Lady found us worthy as women and girls to support our education. For that, we are grateful,” she said.
In her remarks, Her Excellency Madam Bah-Barrow encouraged them to pursue excellence in their educational journeys.
The occasion was graced by Professor Pierre Gomez, minister of Higher Education Research Science & Technology. He hailed the rare initiative, while at the same time enjoining beneficiary students to exploit the opportunity.
