One lucky subscriber has become a homeowner as Africell Gambia Limited officially handed over a fully built villa to one of its subscribers after a transparent nationwide raffle draw that brought together customers, partners and stakeholders on the Gambia Radio and Television Services ( GRTS).
The draw, which formed part of Africell’s ongoing customer reward promotion dubbed: 'Nekal Borom Kerr', saw 30 finalists selected from 1,976,000 eligible subscribers across the country. At the end of the live draw, Modou Jobe emerged as the sole winner and went home with the villa.
The event, broadcast live, was designed to reward loyal Africell customers who actively use the company’s services, particularly AfriMoney. The open glass ballot draw reassured participants and viewers of the fairness and credibility of the process.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of Africell Gambia Limited, Mr. Hussein Diab-Ghanem, said the promotion reflects Africell’s commitment to giving back to the community and empowering its subscribers.
“We are not just a telecommunications provider. We believe in giving back to the people who have supported us. When our subscribers grow, the country grows,” he said.
Mr. Diab-Ghanem explained that the promotion was launched in June 2025 with the idea of turning loyal subscribers into homeowners, noting that the name Nekal Borom Kerr carries a strong message of empowerment and ownership.
“Out of nearly two million eligible subscribers, only 30 made it here today. One person is going home with a house, but everyone here remains part of our loyalty programme,” he added.
He also highlighted that Africell’s journey in The Gambia, which spans 25 years, has always been built around creating opportunities and supporting local talent, including the creative industry, which was showcased through musical performances at the event.
Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Abdoulie Jobe, commended Africell for the initiative, describing the villa giveaway as a life-changing opportunity for ordinary Gambians.
“Giving a whole house to a subscriber is no small thing. This is a serious investment in people’s lives,” the minister said, encouraging subscribers who did not win to remain hopeful as another draw is expected.
Chief Government and Corporate Affairs Officer, Musa Ceesay, emphasized the transparency of the draw and thanked subscribers for their loyalty over the years.
“There are no losers here. Just reaching this stage is a win. Africell belongs to the people, and this is our way of showing appreciation,” he said.
The winner, Modou Jobe, said he was overwhelmed by the news, admitting he initially thought the call informing him of his selection was a prank.
“I couldn’t believe it at first. I’m very happy. This means everything to me and my family,” he said, while encouraging Gambians to continue using Africell services.
The villa handover marks the first of two houses to be awarded under the promotion, reinforcing Africell’s message that loyalty does not just earn points, but can also change lives.
