The Foundation, according to the operation manager was established by a Senegalese national.
The boreholes were sponsored by the Foundation at the tune of D270,000 in total. The 2000 liter water tanks are connected to many standpipes to provide safe potable water for the school and communities for their water needs.
In his inaugural speech, Buba Sanyang, operations manager for Foundation 221 explained that the foundation started operation in The Gambia in 2022.
“Before these two boreholes, we drilled fifteen boreholes in West Coast Region. You cannot live without water, and that is why we are working hard to make sure we get a lot of projects for water, because many people are demanding for water," he explained.
Mr Sanyang also highlighted his foundation's achievement in providing food for the Muslim Ummah during the Holy month of Ramadan as well as clothing for the orphans during Koriteh and Tobaski feasts. He further said that they also assist less privileged students with learning materials.
He cited that their challenges include some communities not taking care of their boreholes when handed over to them and thieves also stealing the borehole machines in some communities.
Clement Kojo Mensah, acting principal at Grace Baptist Basic Cycle School in Ghana Town expressed profound gratitude to the foundation for coming to their aid.
"We have been struggling for water for a while now. We wrote letters to many institutions but to no avail. When this foundation decided that they wanted to help us, it was quick,” he also said.
The project will not be beneficial to just us but the community as well. It will keep the students in school and improve their learning," he said.
Abdoulie Jammeh, councillor for Brufut Ward expressed gratitude to the foundation for complementing his efforts.
Honourable Jammeh stated that a person can go for a long time without food but not without water, saying that, water is life. He called on the school authorities to take good care of the borehole.
Ousman David Kujabi, village development committee (VDC) chairman for Kanilai expressed similar remarks and applauded the foundation for their kind gesture.
