The Brikama Magistrates' Court presided over by Magistrate M.S. Dem recently granted bail to one Dembo Ceesay in the sum of one-hundred thousand dalasis (D100, 00) after being arraigned on a single count of wilful damage of property.

The particulars of offence alleged that Dembo Ceesay sometime in the month of December 2024 at Mamuda village, willfully and unlawfully demolished a compound gate and a concrete pillar valued at D25, 000, being the property of one Mengeh Ceesay and he thereby committed an offence.

The accused, who was not represented by a lawyer denied the allegations levelled against him.

The prosecution did not object to the bail of the accused on the grounds that the crime the accused is alleged to have committed is a bailable offence and then sought for an adjournment in order to secure their first prosecution witness.

Presiding Magistrate M.S. Dem notwithstanding ordered that Ceesay's bail condition include his provision of two Gambian sureties with valid Identity Cards or passports.

Cadet Asp S. Touray represented the Inspector General of Police at the hearing.

Case is adjourned to 3rd April 2025 for continuation of the hearins of prosecution witness.
