Cornerstone Group donates 1400 Reflective Vests to MoI

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cornerstone Group, Alagie Sanyang recently handed over 1400 reflective vests to the Ministry of Interior.

The gesture was designed to augment the Ministry’s efforts especially The Gambia Police Force Mobile Traffic Unit in the execution of their functions and duties to the populace.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Assan Tangara, permanent secretary at the Ministry, thanked CEO Sanyang and his team for the ‘timely gesture’. 

PS Tangara acknowledged that that was one of the most significant donations for them, noting that issues relating to motor traffic is a critical component in the management and regulation of motor vehicles and pedestrians.

He expressed optimism that the use of the vests would reduce the involvement of the traffic police officers in motor accidents, particularly those on night duties.

PS Tangara equally called on other philanthropists to emulate the CEO of Cornerstone Group in complementing government’s efforts in the management of traffic rules and regulations in the country.

The Ambassador-at-Large and Honorary Consul of the Republic of Serbia, and Board member of the Cornerstone Group, Pa Omar Faal, said the donation was to show appreciation for the valuable work of the Gambia Police Force and the other sister security institutions under the Ministry of Interior in maintaining peace and stability in our country.

The items, he added have been donated in view of their importance of providing safety to security officers while performing their duties.

Presenting the items, Alagie Sanyang, CEO Cornerstone Group, said the most important thing one can do for the police is to accord them the respect they deserve.

“If anyone thinks that the policing job is not important, go to a country where there is no police and you will see why we need the police.’ he asserted.

He expressed hope that the gesture, though small, would help a great deal in boosting the morale of the police and help them understand that the community appreciates what they do.

Speaking on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of the Gambia Police Force Motor Traffic Unit, Lamin King Colley, affirmed that the vests would go a long way in enhancing their work, and commended the donor for the kind gesture.
