The Catalunya the Gambia Foundation (CGF), a non-governmental organisation dedicated to enhancing agricultural practices through agro-ecology, is committed to improving production and soil quality while empowering women and promoting sustainable agriculture in The Gambia.

To bolster the movement for food sovereignty in the nation, CGF has requested a collaborative partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture.

The organisation, dedicated to collaborating with local women farmers, underscores the crucial role of empowering women to spearhead efforts toward self-sufficiency in food production.

The foundation's initiative to collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture seeks to foster a more supportive environment for women in agriculture, equipping them with the tools and resources necessary to enhance food security in both rural and urban regions.

In an interview with the Point Newspaper, Sainabou Touray, a member of the Foundation, emphasised that food sovereignty transcends mere food production. It fundamentally involves empowering women, who are the backbone of the agricultural sector. She advocated for a partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture to enhance support for women in agriculture, food processing, and farming.

By collaborating, she emphasised they have the potential to generate sustainable opportunities, enhance access to vital resources, and foster innovations that empower women in these essential sectors.

“This collaboration will not only establish a strong partnership aimed at achieving gender equality but also promote enduring growth in agriculture for future generations.”

Touray also highlighted the services they offer to assist women in agriculture and food processing.

She proposed that their initiatives aim to empower women by providing access to training, resources, and financial opportunities, allowing them to excel in the agricultural and food industries.

“We provide dynamic skill development workshops, invaluable business mentorship, and comprehensive technical support, empowering women to boost their productivity and efficiency. Our mission is to create a sustainable ecosystem where women can flourish in their enterprises, enhance food security, and stimulate economic growth within their communities."
