In a move designed to help strengthen the propagation of Islam, the Late Benni Fatima Charity, a local charity in The Gambia has extended magnanimity to the Wellingara Mosque with the donation of 1,000 euros, which is equivalent to D76,500  towards the construction of the said mosque.

The cash was presented to the Imam and the elders of the Wellingara community on Monday, November 25, 2024.

Presenting the money, Yasmina Barka Jatta, a French resident in The Gambia and a member of the Wellingara Community, presented the funds on behalf of her friend in Belgium towards the construction needs.

Mrs Jatta emphasised that the mosque benefited from the generosity of the late Benni Fatima, who passed away in October 2022 in Belgium and had bequeathed funds to be shared with charities.

She urged the community to seek additional funds to complete the mosque and her continued contribution towards the completion.

Receiving the money, Kabiro Drammeh, imam of the Wellingara Mosque described the donation as valuable and coming at a time when it is needed most.

He spoken highly of the financial contribution toward the ongoing renovation at the mosque, recalling that the actual works began a year ago but due to budgetary constraints, they are finding it difficult to complete it.

To that end, he underscored the importance of the initiative, further calling on the Muslim community to invest in promoting Islam in the country.

“The mosque planner has indicated that we need 2 million dalasi to complete the mosque, as it is a multi-story building that will include a Quranic school and a mortuary.”

At the event, the mosque committee expressed gratitude to the donor for the foresight, while calling on others to emulate her to seek Allah’s blessing.

They also prayed for Allah to shower His infinite blessing with good health and strength.
