A condolence book was placed in front of the Council’s main office, where scores of sympathisers, loved ones, visitors and council staff joined in signing the condolence book to pay tributes to their former mayor.
Mayor Bensouda replaced former Mayor Yankuba Colley in 2017 after the fall of president Yahya Jammeh's regime.
Born in Tallinding Kunjang, Yankuba started his early educational career at Malfa Primary school in Banjul in 1966. From Malfa Primary school, he was later transferred to Wesley Primary and then to Kafuta Primary Schools in the West Coast Region, where he sat the then Common Entrance Examination in 1976.
After his Common Entrance Examination, Colley moved back to Tallinding and was enrolled at Crab Island Secondary School in Banjul. Upon completion of his secondary school education at Crab Island, he joined the Gambia Police Force in 1982.
In 1992, Colley retired from the Police Force and travelled to London, England to pursue a course in Public Administration for two years.
The former Kanifing Municipality Mayor once recalled that the first post he occupied under the APRC regime was that of constituency chairperson for Serrekunda East constituency and ward councilor.
In 1996, Colley was selected to serve as APRC constituency mobiliser for Serrekunda East.
He served as councilor for Tallinding ward for five years during which he served as both acting deputy mayor and mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council.
The book will be handed over to the family of former Mayor at his residence in Tallinding.
