The club, based in Rivers State, is a premium lifestyle and networking club dedicated to promoting waterfront tourism and business development in the state.
Comprising professionals from various disciplines, the group has a mission to showcase the stunning beaches of Rivers State and attract government and investor attention.
Speaking to journalists after meeting the delegation, GTBoard Director General Ida Jeng Njie underscored the importance of the Nigerian market to The Gambia, describing Nigerians as high spenders.
From weddings and retreats to beach holidays and leisure, Nigerian travellers are seen as an important source of tourism revenue and investment for The Gambia.
“We know the importance of that to the economy of our country. So we want a fair share of that market and besides they are our big brothers,” Njie said.
She added that the GTBoard will continue to promote Destination Gambia to boost its contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), noting that the country is ready to welcome Nigerian tourists.
Tourism consultant and adviser to the Head of the School of Travel and Tourism in The Gambia, Sheikh Tijan Nyang, said the delegation is in the country to explore possible investment opportunities geared towards the development of The Gambia’s tourism sector.
Nyang, who has spent many years in the tourism industry, expressed optimism that the visit would mark the beginning of more investment opportunities in the destination.
Receiving the delegation, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Abdoulie Jobe commended them for the visit and highlighted the need to promote tourism within the region.
He spoke about the country’s market readiness, its existing potential and the warmth and hospitality of The Gambians, and referenced areas where the two countries can collaborate and harness existing opportunities, encouraging members to explore Destination Gambia.
Head of the delegation, Walter Aberepikima, expressed appreciation to the officials for the warm reception accorded to them.
He also elaborated on areas where the club could collaborate with Gambian stakeholders in its bid to promote tourism between the two countries and beyond.
