A former National Assembly Member in one of the constituencies of Foni has appealed to President Adama Barrow to help them with an additional health post to help people access quality health care in the area.

Kaddy Camara was speaking at a joint meeting held for communities in Foni Jarrol, Bondali, Kansala, Bintang and Berefet constituencies in the just-ended President’s ‘Meet with the People’ tour held at Sibanor, West Coast Region.

She informed the president and delegation that in the whole of the five districts of Foni, there exist only one health facility, which she believes, cannot respond to the health needs of the growing residents in terms of accessing quality health care service.

“From Foni Berefet to Bondali, Kansala, Bintang to Jarrol, there is only one health facility serving people of these communities. Having an additional health center would be of great importance to the people in these areas as they seek quality medical services.”

She highlighted the need for extension of electricity supply to other communities within the five districts that are still in darkness, further calling on the president to help women venturing into agricultural activities with farming equipment to boost their productivity.

Regarding some APRC militants in Foni who are still in denial and finding it difficult to recognize or accept the current leadership, Camara called on them to accept the realities of life and live peacefully in their respective communities.

“There will be no development in the absence of peace and stability. I thus urge all religious leaders and elders of Foni to promote dialogue in their communities and among families for a peaceful coexistence.”

Fanta Suso, who spoke on behalf of the women of Foni, disclosed some of the challenges some communities face such as lack of water and electricity supply, particularly in some of their schools.

Aji Awa Bah also pointed out that, they have faced water challenges from Foni Berefet to Kalagi, particularly in Ndemban communities.

“We really need President Barrow’s empowerment because the women of Besse community don’t have garden for them to cultivate vegetables. We depend on farming to make a living. As the rainy season ends, we go back to the gardens.” she revealed.

“So many people are suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, all because of the types of food they consume. So, we are appealing to you to help us with farming equipment to produce enough and healthy food for our families.” she ended.
