The National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI) has announced the appointment of Mr. Alpha M.K. Lowe as its new Deputy General Manager, effective immediately.

Mr. Lowe, a distinguished educationist, administrator, and youth leader, brings extensive experience in academia, institutional management, and youth development to his new role. His appointment reflects NEDI’s drive to strengthen entrepreneurship and enterprise growth among young people and women in The Gambia.

A Chevening Scholar, Mr. Lowe holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Higher Education from the University of Oxford. He also earned a Master of Science in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of The Gambia (UTG), along with a Higher Teacher Certificate in English Language and Social and Environmental Studies from Gambia College.

Before joining NEDI, he served as Assistant Registrar at UTG, where he was instrumental in strengthening academic and administrative systems. He also lectured at the university, teaching courses including Public Policy Analysis and Diplomacy and Negotiation.

His career spans institutions such as the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gambia Senior Secondary School, Mingdaw Upper and Senior Secondary School, Njoren Basic Cycle School, and Saint Theresa’s Basic Cycle School in Fullabantang.

Rising from classroom teacher to Vice Principal, Principal, Cluster Monitor, and University Administrator, Mr. Lowe has built a reputation for leadership, diligence, and commitment to youth empowerment.

Outside academia, he is widely known for his civic engagement, having served as President of the University of The Gambia Students’ Union, President of the National Union of Gambian Students, Secretary General of the UTG Education Students’ Association, Secretary General of the UTG Debate Association, and President of Niumi Hands, a community-based development association.

In his new capacity, Mr. Lowe is expected to contribute to NEDI’s strategic leadership, strengthen operational efficiency, and champion youth-driven enterprise development in line with the institution’s mandate.

NEDI, an agency under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, promotes entrepreneurship, enterprise development, and access to finance for youth and women through capacity building, business development services, and financial support aimed at enhancing self-employment and sustainable growth.
