The event, attended by the EU Ambassador in The Gambia, Corrado Pampaloni and NHRC chief Emmanuel Daniel Joof was observed as part of activities commemorating International Human Rights Day. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Dignity Freedom and Justice For All”.
The global event, celebrated on 10th of December, was adopted in 1948 by the United Nations General Assembly in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
The UDHR is a milestone document, which proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as human being - regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
Decades since the adoption of this Universal Declaration, human rights have become more recognised and more guaranteed across the globe.
Speaking at the event, Modou O. Sey, deputy secretary general of Amnesty International KM branch, explained that the event marked the 75th anniversary of the UDHR.
Sey thus called for the protection and preservation of every individual’s humanity to ensure that every individual can live a life of dignity and a life that is worthy of a human being.
The fresco paintings were painted on the walls of Alliance Francaise by the children under the supervision of eminent Gambian painter, Moulaye Sarr.
