The partnership is geared towards the development of students’ knowledge on research in agricultural science, and experiments for practical basis.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Herbert Robinson, in his opening remarks enunciated that UTG is among the youngest universities in existence. He expressed optimism that this collaboration could bring forth enormous benefits and opportunities to both universities.
He added that benefits could not be limited to students and staff exchanges for agricultural research, experience, experiments and academic development from both SCSU, UTG students and staffs.
He explained that UTG’s School of Agriculture has two farmlands, mainly to be developed for agricultural researches, and experiments by students in their studies for support to transform university’s farms, adding that these lands can be developed to venture into not only experimental but commercial farming as well, and development of fruits support to exotic fruits for processing.
He finally expressed gratitude to Dr. Drammeh and also recognised the efforts of the government of The Gambia.
President, South Carolina State University, Col. Alexander Conyers, in his statement, said he was excited and enthusiastic to work and partner with the University of The Gambia (UTG), while expressing the importance of farms, adding succeeding in agriculture is as paramount as lab to scientists.
He revealed they would narrow down their focus and scale the scope of assistance for both universities.
