“This is a clear testament that the management of GRA will never compromise capacity building for its staff,” he said.
CG Darboe made this disclosure shortly after the enrolment of five members of staff from various departments within the Gambia Revenue Authority at a ceremony held at the High Court complex in Banjul last Wednesday.
The five were formally enrolled as legal practitioners by the Hon. Chief Justice of The Gambia, Hassan B. Jallow. The staff were admitted to the Bar following their successful completion of the Bar Examination and one year of mandatory pupillage under the supervision of the Attorney General Chambers and Ministry of Justice.
According to the GRA boss, the enrolment of the five lawyers has brought the total number of legal practitioners within the GRA to twelve, reflecting the Authority’s growing legal capacity and continued investment in professional development.
The new legal practitioners were among fifty-seven candidates enrolled as Barristers and Solicitors of the Supreme Court of The Gambia in line with the Legal Practitioners Act, 2026.
He described this development as unprecedented in the history of GRA, saying capacity building would continue to be his top agenda to ensure effective and efficient services and performance at GRA.
CG Darboe explained that initially there were only seven qualified lawyers at GRA doing extremely well in helping the Authority in recovering revenue debts from non-compliant institutions and companies, but “As “I speak, five additional GRA lawyers graduated last week and now the number has risen to a total of 12 qualified legal practitioners.”
He added that their roles and responsibility is no small measure at the level of GRA. “We are proud to have these young talented lawyers, whose contributions will immensely boost revenue compliant,” CG Darboe said, emphasising that GRA management would “never compromise” capacity building.
CG Darboe further spoke extensively on the essence of having well dedicated and educated personnel that would help the institution to set the pace in exceptional revenue performance.
“We are initiating new reforms but these have to go with capacity building of our staff to make the reforms work effectively,” he stated, commending all for their hard work, dedication and commitment to the work of GRA.
“We expect you to apply the knowledge gained in the execution of your duties. We are always proud of you as GRA Board and Management,” CG Darboe stated, advising them to respect the hierarchy and be patient, and professional in their work.
