Speaking at presentation ceremony at Tanka Tanka, Omar Mboob, the deputy managing director of Trust Bank, acknowledged that mental health is critical and often an overlooked aspect of healthcare. “But the importance of mental well-being cannot be overstated. Mental health illnesses can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or circumstances. Whether it is depression, anxiety or other mental health disorders, these conditions often push individuals into their darkest moments, where they feel isolated, hopeless, and vulnerable,” he said, adding that is where the incredible staff at Tanka Tanka and the Bank’s collaboration come into play.
“By providing the necessary care, treatment, and resources, you are ensuring that these individuals have the chance to regain their dignity and rebuild their lives. Through this partnership, we hope to continue making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it the most,” he affirmed.
Speaking at Bundung Maternal and Child Hospital, he stated that “the issue of maternal mortality remains critically challenged globally, and here in The Gambia, access to quality maternal healthcare is paramount.”
“Every year, thousands of women and newborns suffer or lose their lives due to complications during pregnancy and childbirth. However, with institutions like Bundung Maternal Hospital and your unwavering dedication to providing comprehensive maternal care, we are making strides toward reducing maternal mortality and improving outcomes for women in our society.”
“Trust Bank is fully aware of the challenges that health facilities, particularly maternal hospitals, face when it comes to resources. That is why, over the past few years, we have worked closely with the hospital management to understand your specific needs. We believe that giving should not just be a gesture, but a meaningful contribution to the hospital's most urgent priorities.
“For this reason, we are pleased to announce that the donation this year amounts to D200,000. This donation went towards the purchase of the items that the hospital specifically requested to enhance the care provided to women during their most critical moments.”
The matron of Tanka-Tanka Psychiatric Hospital, Bakary Camara, thanked the bank for the gesture, assuring them that the donated items would be put to good use. “The acknowledgment highlighted the importance of community support in ensuring the effective care and treatment of individuals facing mental health issues,” he stated.
CEO of Bundung Maternal, Mamadi Cham, also expressed gratitude and thanked the management and leadership of Trust Bank for its concern on the health of the people of The Gambia, while hailing the long term and fruitful relationship between the two institutions.
“Trust Bank is the only Bank which I can say has been annually donating to public facilities across the country. That is something worth to be recognised,” he said, adding that the donation was highly needed at the BMCH Maternity Unit.”
