Apr 23, 2025, 7:33 AM

“We write to extend our condolences on the sad demise of Pope Francis which sad event took place on Monday 21st April 2025 which also coincided with Easter Monday at the age of 88.

‘Surely, to God we belong and to Him shall we return.’ (Holy Quran, Chapter 2, Verse 157).

Pope Francis was a very exemplary leader who served Humanity at large and stood for the rights of the less privileged, vulnerable and the minorities as well. He served the world with great sense of calmness, humility and touched the lives of not only millions of Catholics, but other Christians and people of different faiths as well. He was a man of peace, who did not only lead and lived by peace but also preached peace and advocated for justice and human rights throughout the world. He will be sorely missed but his legacy will always live on and he will be remembered till the ends of time.

On the sad demise of the Pope, the Spiritual and Worldwide Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at also extended his condolences to the Catholic and Christian communities which we hereby reproduce below:

“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. Throughout his life, Pope Francis sought to serve the poor and vulnerable, demonstrating immense sympathy for the suffering under the heavy weight of warfare, persecution and injustice. He was a man of compassion, humility and faith who strived to build bridges between people of different faiths and beliefs.

During his Papacy, Pope Francis received representatives of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community with warmth and grace at the Vatican, for which we will always be grateful.

On behalf of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, I extend our sincere condolences to the Catholic Church and its members around the world.”

As we can all attest to the fact that this is a sad moment not only for the Catholic Community but the entire world at large. On behalf of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at The Gambia and my own humble behalf I offer my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the Catholic Community here in the Gambia and the world at large. We pray that may the departed soul rest in perfect peace. May God Almighty continue to shower His infinite favours and bounties upon us all and may He make the world a better place to live with peace, harmony, security and protection. Ameen.”
