The Senegalese Forces that were reported to be “heavily armed” with “tankers” attempted to enter the Gambia border at Darsilameh. However, they were denied entry by personnel of the GAF who are currently stationed at the border.
A source, who is familiar with the matter and wished to speak to our reporter on the condition of anonymity, said: “I can confirm that the incident happened on Tuesday morning. Inhabitants of the area were afraid when they saw the heavily armed Senegalese Forces.”
“The Gambia soldiers had to request reinforcement from the 1st Infantry Battalion at Yundum Barrack.”
Lieutenant Colonel Lamin Sanyang, the GAF spokesperson, who was contacted for comments, confirmed the development, saying: “I can confirm that heavily armed Senegalese Forces were denied entry at Gambia territory by personnel of the GAF who are stationed at the Darsilameh Border. They came yesterday and wanted to enter our area but our soldiers denied them.”
Quizzed as to why the heavily armed Senegalese Forces wanted to enter the country’s territory without authorisation, the GAF PRO, said: “They claimed that a particular alkalo called them and informed them that one alkalo whose village is in the Senegalese territory was arrested by the Gambian authorities,” he posited.
