The Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC) last Friday donated 2 heavy freezers to the Gambia Army Forces (GAF) worth D100,000.

The donation was part of the SSHFC Corporate Social Responsibility in national development.

The donated freezers included one solar freezer of 430lrs capacity and low energy consumption freezer of 650lrs capacity.

The donation, being the second of its kind, aims to complement the government's efforts in national development.

Speaking at the presentation held at SSHFC headquarter in Banjul, the managing director of SHFC, Saloum Malang, expressed delight in making this donation to the Gambia Army Forces (GAF) a reality.

According to MD Malang, one of the reasons that motivated this donation was the CDS’s recently concluded tour in which the issue of having refrigeration facilities to store nutrients was highlighted by one of the officers in an interview shown on GRTS.

“When I heard about this in the news, I just called my corporate planning director and told him that our friends are in need of a fridge. They needed one but we will give them two. So that’s how it all came about,” he explained.

He disclosed that a similar donation was done last year.

“I must note that SSHFC is here for everyone. We know we have limited funds but we will play our part in socio economic development,” he stated.

Rohey Bittaye Darboe, permanent secretary, Ministry of Defense, expressed appreciation and commended the SSHFC for taking up this giant step in supporting the GAF.

She described the move as a worthy course, saying: “The military is for the people and contributing to their welfare; contributing to their needs is everyone’s responsibility because security is everyone’s responsibility.”

She expressed gratitude and extolled the MD and his team for the initiative.
