Top businessman and Cyprus Honorary Consul, Alh Salifu K. Jaiteh has donated to the country’s accident and emergency clinic, Ndemban currently situated in Bakau.
The gesture contained five bales of blankets and two bales of rags worth D65,000 to support patients who are admitted at the hospital and to improve the general cleanliness of the hospital.

He also donated blankets, bales of rag bales of clothes valued D66,000 to Tanka Tanka Psychiatric Hospital.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony at his office in Banjul, CEO Jaiteh said sometime back, he made a visit to Ndemban clinic and what he found about some of the patients was unpleasant to him.

“I found the patients lying down on the floor helplessly. This really shocked me and I think of giving out these blankets which will be helpful to some of those patients in their recovery process. If suffering patients are admitted to the hospital without beds, these blankets will be meaningful for them by spreading it on the ground or can be used to cover themselves as well,” he stated.

Mr Jaiteh emphasised the importance of supporting the health facilities, arguing that it should be everyone’s business. “What you gave out to people, it’s what belongs to you.”

“I believe these gestures will be meaningful to the hospitals and patients as well. Without a doubt, I will continue to impact the health sector at all time as such endeavours formed part of my corporate social responsibility,” he declared.

Receiving the gesture on the part of the hospital, Jonsaba, a registered nurse at Ndemban Clinic, enormously thanked Mr Jaiteh for the gesture and his relentless efforts in supporting the health sector to become a better place for all.

“Currently, all accidents and emergency patients are taken to Ndemban for treatments. However, due to the volume of patients we received sometimes, it is difficult to cater beds for all of them. It’s not our wish to leave patients on the floor at any point in time. Nonetheless if all beds are occupied, it’s not our wish but some of them will be on ground to wait for an empty bed. We believe your these generous gestures will be utilized to serve as alternative bed to patients when such situations arise. As a hospital, we are really grateful for your tireless support to the country’s health sector. You set a precedent that can never be erased in the country’s history and I am urging the entire business community to emulate you in this strive for a better sector for all,” Nurse Jonsaba stated.

The officer in charge of transports who accompanied his colleague to the presentation ceremony, expressed delight and thanks to Mr Jaiteh for his long service commitment to the health sector in the country.

He recounts the endless donations EFSTH received from Mr Jaiteh during his time as a store keeper and how the gestures where meaningful to the hospital.

Known for his patriotism and dedication to national development, Mr Jaiteh wasted no time to extend similar support to the country’s only psychiatric treatment center.

Last December, Mr Jaiteh provided an alternative power supply to EFSTH’s labour ward to enhance safe and better delivery conditions at a significant cost of D172,000, a donation the nation still remains grateful for.

His generosity, commitment and grace to the health sector have earned him a huge respect in the country resulting in a labour ward being named after him in Bansang in1996.
