New Sierra Leone High Commissioner to The Gambia Martha Consilia Kanagbo.

The Sierra Leonean community in The Gambia on Saturday 19 October 2024 welcomed their new High Commissioner Her Excellency Madam Martha Consilia Kanagbo to The Gambia.

H.E. Madam Martha Kanagbo and her entourage met with a cross-section of the Sierra Leonean community representatives from Guinea-Bissau and The Gambia including staff of the Sierra Leone High Commission, who lined up at the Gambia International Airport with a colourful cultural ambience from well-wishers.

A long convoy of exuberant crowd of Sierra Leoneans plied the route from the airport to her temporary residence at Brusubi, where H.E. Martha Kanagbo gave a short address in appreciation of her welcoming to The Gambia as envoy of the Government and people of Sierra Leone.

In her address to the crowd, H.E. Madam Kanagbo said that before she embarked on her journey to The Gambia, she had a briefing with President Maada Bio, who advised her on her mission to The Gambia, noting that as High Commissioner to The Gambia, she is in the country for every Sierra Leonean regardless of party, tribe or regional background.

She thus advised all her compatriots in The Gambia that “we have to be united as Sierra Leoneans, and President will come and go - so political parties, but people will stay together in unity”.

H.E. Madam Kanagbo thanked and appreciated Sierra Leoneans in The Gambia and Guinea Bissau and particularly commended Mr Mohammed N. Deen for his esteemed gratitude and hospitality shown to her since her appointment and for the wonderful and colourful welcoming event.

She also thanked and appreciated the Sierra Leone Nationals Union, AWOL-Gambia and other organisations, including the Sierra Leone Cultural Dance Troupe in The Gambia, present at the welcoming event.
