The Seminar on Green Economic Development and Cooperation for Belt and Road Countries has officially opened in Changsha, beginning a two-weeks training programme running from 14 to 27 August 2026.

The event brings together participants from several Belt and Road partner nations for intensive learning aimed at strengthening sustainable development cooperation and professional capacity building.

 

The opening ceremony, held at Millenia International Hotel, marked the start of the programme organised by Hunan International Business Vocational College and sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China. The seminar seeks to deepen dialogue and promote shared learning in areas such as green industry development, clean energy transition, ecological protection, and lowcarbon economic growth.

 

Distinguished guests at the ceremony included Mr. Li Hanzhong, Secondlevel Researcher of the Division of Institutional Innovation of the China (Hunan) Pilot Free Trade Zone under the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce; Professor Li Ke, President of Hunan International Business Vocational College; and Mrs. Sevil Haciyeva from Azerbaijan, who delivered remarks on behalf of the international participants.

 

In his keynote address, Mr. Li Hanzhong underscored the Belt and Road Initiative’s commitment to advancing green development. He noted that while participating countries differ in national conditions and development stages, they share a common aspiration for lowcarbon growth, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development. He highlighted Hunan Province’s expanding role in promoting green cooperation, supported by national platforms such as the ChinaAfrica Economic and Trade Expo and the Pilot Zone for Indepth ChinaAfrica Economic and Trade Cooperation, which have become important drivers of innovation and international engagement.

 

Mr. Li emphasized that the seminar forms a key component of the Ministry of Commerce’s human resource assistance programme, describing it as a practical step toward building a Belt and Road green development partnership. He said the training provides a valuable platform for mutual learning, experience sharing, and strengthening friendship among participating countries.

 

Over the course of the  programme, participants will take part in expert lectures, panel discussions, field visits, and interactive exchanges designed to deepen understanding of China’s green development practices. The seminar will explore collaborative approaches to sustainable economic growth, including renewable energy development, green finance, circular economy models, and ecological conservation strategies.

 

The training is expected to foster stronger professional networks and contribute to ongoing efforts to promote green, resilient and sustainable development across Belt and Road partner nations.
