She complained and gave a statement to the investigators on the 7th of November 2024, alleging an attack in her office by the former acting CEO of KMC, Jaja Cham following his testimony about procurement issues.
Lead Counsel Patrick Gomez highlighted that such is a serious matter that the commissioners should be aware of, which is why he recalled Sarata Jaiteh to reappear. He proceeded to ask her to explain.
Sarata testified that the alleged incident occurred a day after she appeared before the Commission.
She claimed that while heading to her office, he saw Jaja Cham at the corridor, who said he heard that her former boss and herself testified before the Commission. Sarata said she affirmed it to him, and then he asked her what she had said there.
"I told him, 'You have been appearing before the Commission and I have never asked you what you said. So if you want to know what I said, you can go and watch, but I will not tell you what I have said. He said ok and I went to my office.
"I was there until around 12 noon when he pushed the door, came in and started insulting me. He told me that I am a wicked person, I am a liar and he will destroy me for going to the Commission and mentioning his name.
The lead counsel asked if that was all, but Sarata said such had happened before and that was the third time: "He attacked me when I went to see the investigators [of the Commission]. After seeing the investigators, I think he was called. So, when he went there, he came to the office and told me, ‘I and Sheriff [Njie] were called before you, and we had told the investigators that we know nothing about the said payment involving Kanjura Kanyi to Senegal, and when you were called you told them that we know everything. You explained to them how everything happened.’
She said that was the first attack. The second one was the morning of the day after I appeared before the Commission and the third one was the afternoon.”
Her statement was admitted in evidence of the application of the lead counsel.
Asked if her boss Abdoulid Janneh was aware, she said, "Yes, he was present. He was the one that pushed him out of our office and then made a call to the CEO [Pa Sait Ceesay], informing him of Jaja’s action, but the CEO said he was in a meeting."
She testified that her colleague Jarra Bajowas also present.
