Luke Jatta, the spokesperson of the GPS, who was contacted for comments, confirmed the escape of the prisoner. He however dismissed reports suggesting that the escaped prisoner was a close friend to the senior management of the GPS, which could have led to his escape. He said: "Those kinds of reports are untrue, unfounded and are just intended to tarnish the images of our senior management."
The Prison authorities, he added, are working with sister security forces with a view to arresting the escaped prisoner.
Asked about the crimes committed by the convict, Jatta said: "Modou Lamin Ndow is convicted on two counts of stealing and housebreaking and subsequently sentenced…for each count.
"In total, he was to spend eight years in prison. However, in August 2023, after a year of appeal at Bakau High Court, his sentences were reduced to 2 years on both counts."
