The items included 36 bags of sugar, 430 boxes of tea bags, 7 bags of powdered milk and 120 cartons of dates.
The donation was to contribute to the daily ‘iftar’ at the prisons and it is meant for Mile II, Jeshwang and Janjangbureh prisons.
The foundation also extends its benevolence to orphanages and hospitals.
Tuesday’s presentation was held at the Gambia Prison Service Administrative Head Office Mile II Banjul.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Alh Badou Faye, 2nd Vice President of the Pipeline Mosque Foundation, stated that they have been obliged by Islam through Prophet Muhammad S.A.W to share and care for their siblings in Islam.
He noted that caring and sharing should not be done only in the month of Ramadan, adding that it is an obligation to care for one’s siblings throughout the year, especially in the Holy Month of Ramadan as taught by the Prophet.
He noted that they were able to donate through the support of their donors from institutions and individuals who contributed on behalf of the Foundation. He thanked all sponsors for their gesture in helping the needy.
Acting director general of the Gambia Prison Services, Modou Jarju, thanked the Foundation for the gesture, noting that the people who need support and care the most are the inmates especially in the month of fasting. He noted that the donation came at a right time.
Jarju assured that the donation would bring a huge difference to the life and livelihoods of prisons community as the gifts would undoubtedly ease feeding and enhance the quality of lives of prisoners at Mile 2.
He revealed that donating the items to inmates is fundamental in bringing about positive change and perception as they are seen as not forgotten by the society about where they come from and where they will return when their prison terms end.
He assured that the donation would be strictly used for its intended purpose.
The delegation from the Foundation included: Pipeline Mosque Foundation chairman of the welfare committee who doubles as the chief mobilizer, Alha Mam Sait Njie, 3rdVice President Alh Ebou Manneh and executive member, Alh Yusupha Kah.
