Two hundred and ninety-nine (299) are nominated under the ticket of various parties while 68 are nominated as independent candidates, following the conclusion of the nomination process.
Four persons with disability (PWDs) have also been nominated.
Nine parties nominated candidates to vie in the elections: The National People’s Party (NPP) nominated 99 candidates; United Democratic Party (UDP) nominated 102; Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) nominated 36; People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) nominated 27 candidates and The Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction (APRC) nominated 17, while People’s Progressive Party nominated 9 candidates.
Furthermore, NRP nominated 4; PAP nominated 2 candidates, while APP, GFA and GMC nominated 1 each. ANRD, CA, GAP, GPDP, NCP and NUP did not nominate a candidate.
Finally, 1 nomination was objected to and dismissed by IEC returning officer, another withdrew and two others were rejected; one of which was replaced before the end of nominations.
