GARPA is the result of a merger between the Gambia Pharmaceuticals Association and the HealthTech Distributors and Users’ Alliance, bringing importers, distributors and manufacturers under a single coordinated platform
Newly elected President Dr Ismail D. Badjie described the unification as a demonstration of trust and shared commitment to national development, noting that a unified voice will strengthen advocacy, protect market integrity and enhance access to quality medicines.
The Executive Committee includes industry leaders with decades of experience across local and international pharmaceutical markets. Members say the combined expertise positions GARPA to address supply chain challenges while safeguarding public health.
The association has outlined priorities that include ensuring consistent availability of quality and affordable medicines, strengthening healthcare policy advocacy, preventing shortages, supporting professional standards and expanding economic opportunities for Gambian businesses.
GARPA has also pledged open engagement with government ministries, regulators, healthcare providers and international partners, stressing that the ultimate goal is improved access to medicines for all Gambians.
The Executive Committee is expected to begin formal registration processes immediately and initiate consultations with key stakeholders in the coming weeks, signalling what members describe as a new era of coordinated private sector leadership in The Gambia’s pharmaceutical industry.
