Pap Saine pays tribute to fallen boss

Pap Saine, the dean, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Sub-Saharan Africa has expressed condolences on the passing of Christophe De Loire, the Secretary General of Reporters Without Borders who passed away on Saturday afternoon. He was 53.

Mr. Saine writes:

“Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I write to extend my sincere condolences for the untimely passing of Christophe De Loire, our esteemed Secretary General of Reporters Without Borders (RSF), who left us this afternoon at the age of 53. It was indeed a pleasure having him since 2012. 

For many years, Christophe was a beacon of hope and a tireless advocate for press freedom and freedom of expression across the 180 countries RSF serves. His unwavering dedication and relentless pursuit of truth and justice have left an indelible mark on our organisation and the global journalism community.

Christophe's leadership was characterised by his courage, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the cause of free and independent journalism. Under his guidance, RSF made significant strides in protecting journalists, promoting media freedom, and challenging oppression and censorship worldwide. His vision and determination inspired countless individuals and organisations to join the fight for a free press, creating a legacy that will endure for generations.

As we mourn the loss of a remarkable leader, colleague, and friend, let us also celebrate his life and achievements. Christophe's passion for press freedom and his compassionate spirit will continue to inspire us as we carry forward his mission. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

In these difficult times, let us come together to honour Christophe's memory by reaffirming our commitment to the values he so passionately defended.
