Neneh Cham elected new prexy of Bar Assocition

Prominent Lawyer Neneh M.C. Cham  has been elected president of The Gambia Bar Association (GBA) on 22 December 2023 at an Annual General Meeting (AGM). She would be assisted by Vice President Frederick Forster.

Lawyer Cham succeeded Counsel Salieu Taal and would serve a mandate of two years.

All other members of the GBA executive are as follow: Neneh M.C Cham – President; Frederick C. Forster - Vice President; Abdoulie Fatty – Secretary General; Lena Hydara – Assistant Secretary General; Nyima Samateh – Treasurer; Ya Amie Touray – Social Secretary; SalieuTaal – Member; Olimatou Danso – Member and Mansour Jobe - Member

“I wish to first of all give thanks to the almighty for making everything possible and my family for their unflinching support and encouragement,” she told The Point while reacting to her election. “I am grateful to my colleagues at the Bar for the confidence and trust reposed in me to lead the Gambia Bar Association (GBA). I am humbled and I feel honoured to have been chosen for this important task.”

“I come in as president succeeding my learned friend and brother Mr SalieuTaal Esq, under whose stewardship the Bar has become more relevant with recognition both at home and abroad, built fruitful partnerships and been very much engaged in promoting the ideals of the GBA- defending the rule of law, human rights and justice.”

“On behalf of the new executive, I wish to express a deep sense of appreciation to him and the past executive for their tireless efforts, sacrifice and service to the GBA and the nation. I assure them of our commitment to build on their successes towards achieving an even stronger and more vibrant Bar.”

Neneh Cham is the current Chairperson of the Board of National Agency for Legal Aid (NALA); a founding & Board Member- Gambia Women’s Chamber of Commerce (GWCC). She is also a Board Member- Forum for African Women Educationalists- Gambia (FAWEGAM).

She was the Vice Chairperson of the Faraba Banta Commission of Inquiry established in 2018; President of the Female Lawyers Association Gambia (FLAG)-November 2011- February 2016.
