Ex-NIA operations director allegedly stabbed at Mile 2 Prison

Saikou Omar Jeng, former director of Operations of the defunct National Intelligence Agency (NIA), has been allegedly stabbed by another convict at the State Central Prison – Mile Two –, The Point has been reliably informed. 

Jeng, who is currently at Mile 2 Prison, was sentenced to death with  four with other top former officials of the NIA for his involvement in the death of Solo Sandeng of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP).

Jeng was reportedly stabbed by another prisoner in the person of Amadou Manneh.

The deputy spokesperson of The Gambia Prison Service (GPS), Luke Jatta, has confirmed the development, saying: "The incident occurred on Tuesday 12 December, 2023 at around 17: 15 p.m., while Mr Jeng was taking ablution. A convicted prisoner Amadou Manneh took a screwdriver and stabbed him around his neck trice."

"The suspect was apprehended and Jeng was immediately rushed to Ndemban Clinic for treatment, he said. 

The suspected prisoner, he went on, has been charged with assault causing bodily harm by the police upon investigation into the matter," he posited.  

PRO Jatta further revealed that Amadou Manneh was eventually arraigned before a magistrate court in Banjul.
