The laudable initiative came through tripartite contributions from the Wilde Ganzen Foundation, the SKB 4-Gambia and the Kanifing General Hospital.
In an interview with The Point, Basiru Drammeh, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Kanifing General Hospital, revealed that the availability of the digital x-ray machine will help them in maintaining the quality of services rendered within the hospital.
He revealed that the hospital also brought biomedical engineers from Dakar, Senegal, who fixed and trained their personnel on how to operate the machine.
The CEO indicated that the availability of the machine is going to be economical to the hospital as they would no longer burn any fuel in terms of transporting patients to other hospitals for x-ray services. He added that the x-ray machine would also reduce the burden on patients and their families.
CEO Drammeh advanced that the hospital however offers free x-ray services to patients who cannot afford the service charges likewise military personnel and others.
He added: “Before we had the machine, all our patients who were in need of x-ray service would be referred to other hospitals where they would pay. This time around, we are able to do the x-ray service for our patients here at a minimal fee compared with the private sector.”
“Sometimes back, we had been doing the x-ray services in the hospital, but our machine actually had a problem so we tried to buy a board from Netherlands,” he recalled.
The Kanifing Hospital CEO hailed the SKB 4-Gambia for their collaboration since the establishment of the hospital.
“So Carla, through SKB 4-Gambia, made an aggressive fundraising in Holland and fortunately, there is this foundation called Wilde Ganzen which came to her rescue,” CEO Drammeh disclosed.
“We are so much thankful to SKB 4-Gambia and Wilde Ganzen for the laudable initiative,” he concluded.
