Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) held a meeting at Konko Fulla in Lower Falladou, Central River Region South on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The event was attended by party leader Mama Kandeh and other senior members.
At the rally, Mama Kandeh emphasised the need for accountability and transparency, urging Gambians to join him in fighting corruption and working towards national development. He also outlined plans to transform the agriculture sector, promote vocational skills training, and empower women.
The GDC leader emphasised the need for transparent and fair electoral processes.
The GDC leader and flag bearer for 2026 presidential elections said he was working towards winning the presidency, focusing on policies and programs for national development, not insults. He advises supporters to promote GDC's agenda, not engage in personal attacks.
Kandeh also calls on the president and ministers to respect the law and refrain from insulting political figures, emphasising politics should be about development, not insults.
Kandeh criticised the current government, claiming they have failed in various sectors, and assured that a GDC government would prioritise local development and ensure projects benefit Gambians directly.
Ablie Jallow, director of International Affairs for GDC, said Mama Kandeh will transform agriculture, making Gambia self-sufficient. He also promises vocational skills training centers for Gambians' wellbeing.
Ndeye Fatou Jallow, National Women President of GDC, urged women to support Mama Kandeh, saying he's ready to empower them.
Demba Sey, Sira Jawo, and other GDC supporters a highlighted the challenges women face in CRR South, including lack of healthcare access, inadequate hospital facilities, and water scarcity.
Kaddy Touray from Brikamaba shared a distressing story of a woman delivering in an ambulance due to lack of transport and also women sharing hospital beds at Bansang Hospital. She emphasised the need for change.
At the political rally, over 50 supporters of the National People's Party (NPP) from Konko Fulla and nearby villages in Central River Region South defected to the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) to support Mama Kandeh's presidential bid in the December 2026 elections.
The defectors cited perceived widespread corruption, insecurity, inadequate healthcare services, and limited employment opportunities as reasons for joining GDC. Mama Kandeh welcomed the new members, urging party unity and outlining strategic plans if elected, including reforms in education, healthcare, agriculture, and employment.
This defection is part of a larger trend, with over 300 NPP supporters joining GDC in recent weeks.
GDC defector Babucarr Secka, joined the party, citing dissatisfaction with the current government. The rally highlights the party's focus on addressing grassroots issues and empowering local communities.
