Mr Joof is one of the pioneers of The Television project since it inception in 1995. A highly respectable fellow recognized for his high sense of discipline, humility and hard work, began his career as a broadcaster at Radio Gambia immediately after completing his GCE ‘O’ Level exams at Muslim High School in July 1981. He rose from a humble beginning as a temporal Announcer at Radio Gambia cruising through all the ranks in broadcasting rising to highest positions of Deputy Director General, Acting Director General and Director of Human Resources and Administration until his statutory retirement recently in December 2022. Joof received overseas professional trainings in Media Operations (Radio and Television), Communication and journalism from Egypt, Ghana and Dentschewelle Training Centre and holds triple Diplomas in Mass Communication, Journalism, Television Programme Production as well as certificate in leadership and Management courses including several medium-term professional trainings.
As a result of his effective Communication and writing skills, he was recruited by two International reputable Non-Governmental Organisations operating in the Gambia; being The former American Save the Children Federation and Worldview International Foundation from Norway respectively. Mr Joof spent nine years in the Niumi and Badibou Districts of the North Bank Region in the capacities of child/youth and field coordinators, entrusted with the implementation of schools – educational programmes, youth and children activities as well as
environment protection projects within the context of development communication strategy.
During the military transition rule, he was appointed to serve as a member of an eleven-man Civic Education Panel prior to the referendum that ushered in the 1977 Constitution. After the establishment of The National Council for Civic Education, Mr Joof was appointed member of the Council and later became the Acting Chairman until in February 2016, after the expiration of his term of engagement. When contacted at his Sukuta Nema residence to confirm the information; Alhaji Modou acknowledged receipt of his engagement document as Deputy Director General of GRTS on a two-year Contract effect 27 March 2023. He thanked The Gambia Government (The Ministry of Information in consultation with the Board of Directors of GRTS for invoking an executive approval for the appointment. “The trust and confidence reposed in me is very high and to whom much is given, much is expected. Therefore; I promise to continue to uphold the positive legacy created, join hands with the Management cadre and support the entire Staff by creating a conducive working environment inorder to help attain the core objectives of the Institution. I will also impart skills, knowledge and assist to train the young emerging talented Staff. This will no doubt immensely contribute to re-position GRTS programmeas to come up with eye-catchy, educative entertaining and informative programmes for both Radio audiences and Television viewers.”
It would be noted that Alhaji Modou is the sixth personnel to be engaged on contractual basis at Senior Positions following the footsteps of the late Alhaji Momodou Sanyang, the late Momodou M. Jagne, Eaas Jallow, Babucarr Bai Sanyang and of the recent Malick Jeng.
