Press release

Police have intensified enforcement against irregular migration and human trafficking networks as eight accused persons from Jinack Kajatta appeared before the Essau Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, facing charges linked to trafficking in persons and other backway-related offences.

During proceedings, the Court granted bail to each of the accused in the sum of D500,000, requiring three Gambian sureties per individual. All sureties must deposit valid Gambian national identity cards with the Assistant Registrar of the Court.

As part of stringent bail conditions, the accused were ordered to surrender all travel documents and cooperate fully with ongoing police investigations. The Court also issued a stern warning, prohibiting them from engaging in any activity connected to irregular migration, including harbouring, facilitating, or aiding the movement of persons for trafficking purposes.

Efforts to dismantle irregular migration networks in Jinack and surrounding communities remain ongoing, with authorities pledging close monitoring of compliance with court-imposed conditions.

The Gambia Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing all individuals involved in backway-related offences and urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement by reporting suspicious movements or activities linked to human trafficking.
