The Executive Director of the National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP) has affirmed that human trafficking is a deplorable crime that inflicts immeasurable pain and suffering upon its victims.

Isatou Dabo was speaking on Monday at the commemoration of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons and the launch of the Blue Heart Campaign at a colorful ceremony held at Ocean Bay, Cape Point, Bakau.

Also, the Blue Heart Campaign is designed to create a ripple effect, from broadcasting enlightening shows on radio and television that focus on the victims of trafficking, to conducting competitions intended to sensitise the youth about this issue. We hope to cultivate understanding, empathy, and commitment not only among the authorities and professionals but also within the heart of our society.

To that end, Dabo reminded that the cruel enterprise thrives in the shadows, preying upon the vulnerable and exploiting their desperation for a better life. It knows no boundaries, affecting individuals of all ages, genders, and backgrounds.

“Today marks a pivotal moment in our collective fight against this heinous crime. Through strategic partnerships, relentless advocacy, and comprehensive action, we aim to bring an end to this grave violation of human rights. And it is here, in this very room, that some will continue this crucial journey towards a brighter and safer future for all. For others this is the beginning. Welcome onboard a worthy cause. I stand shoulder to shoulder with our dedicated team, tirelessly working to combat this menace. But we cannot achieve lasting change alone. We need the collective efforts of government bodies, civil society organizations, law enforcement agencies, international organizations and every concerned citizen to join hands with us.”

She indicated that with the strength of ‘our collective will, the depth of our compassion, and the power of our concerted actions, let us strive to make a difference.’

The Blue Heart Campaign, she added, has been endorsed in many countries around the world.

“It’s very spirit is in line with this year’s theme, “Reach every victim of trafficking: leave no one behind. I strongly believe the saying “nothing for us without us” There is a need to adopt a victim centered approach in all aspects of the fight against trafficking in persons. It is high time policies on paper get acted upon. It is high time the voices of the victims be heard louder. It is high time we as stakeholders further coordinate our efforts to yield better results geared towards protecting and supporting victim of trafficking.”
