The National Assembly member for Bundungkakunda has said he would fight tooth and nail to bring about more development projects in his constituency, especially pipe-borne water.

Hon. Sulayman Jammeh made this promise on Tuesday at the National Assembly in an interview with The Point.

One of the projects is the provision of water, which is a serious concern in Bundung, he said, adding that he would ensure that residents of Bundung “don’t have to walk 200 metres” for water.

“This is why we are trying to install more community standpipes in various homes where people can have access to water,” he added.

According to him, it would be difficult to provide taps for every compound, saying that as a representative of the people, he would do all he could to solve the issue of water in his constituency.

“We know that water is an issue in Bundung, but this project is a special project that has already identified the areas where they don’t have much issue with regard to pressure. So this is where we are going to install 25 community standpipes to see how best we can achieve our target,” he said.

“Right now, we are working towards starting another phase to install boreholes in affected areas of Bundung, where they have low water pressure,” Hon Jammeh added.

Talking about the recent visit of President Barrow to Bundung, the Bundungkakunda NAM said women who came out that day were expressing their frustration and concern regarding water constraints in the area, adding: “These are people who have taps in their homes, but they cannot have water; so far that has been the case. They engaged me, and I was able to discuss with them and we have come to the conclusion that we should work together with Nawec to see how best they can address the issue.”
