Sabally cautioned farmers against engaging in cross-border fertilizer trade, stressing that authorities will not tolerate the smuggling of subsidized fertilizer into neighboring countries. To ensure fair distribution, individuals will be limited to purchasing a maximum of 25 bags.
In addition to chemical fertilizer, he said the government has procured 10,000 metric tonnes of organic fertilizer, which will be distributed free of charge nationwide. Farmers are urged to obtain supplies through designated Seccos and approved private dealers.
On seed distribution, he confirmed that 461,000 kilograms of rice seed, 260,000 tonnes of maize seed, and 56 tonnes of groundnut seed will be made available. Furthermore, 46,000 bags of organic fertilizer will be distributed to bolster agricultural production during the season.
According to him, these measures form part of broader efforts to boost crop yields, strengthen food security, and improve the livelihoods of farmers across the country.
