Mr. Fatty won the GCCI presidential race after emerging victorious with over 600 votes against his opponent, Saul Frazer who secured 415 votes at an election held on Friday evening at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center in Bijilo.
Mr. Fatty is now the 11th president of the GCCI since its establishment in 1967, succeeding his predecessor, Edrissa Mass Jobe who headed the Chamber from 2019 to 2025.
In an exclusive interview with The Point, President-elect Fatty emphasised that since election is over, there is no team Njundu private or team Saul. “What we have is the private sector of The Gambia,” he said.
“The entire team of Njudu is really appreciative of the trust that the general membership of the GCCI placed on us,” he remarked.
As a priority, President Fatty said that the Chamber must ensure inclusivity and diversity, adding that The Gambia Chamber of Commerce is for Gambian businesses, irrespective of gender, age or religion.
“So, we need to reach out to the entire players of the sector to understand their challenges, engage the relevant authorities so that the playing ground will be more regular, more defined and more supportive to help create employment and reduce poverty rate in the country,” he stated.
Recognising his opponent team during the campaign, he said “we are all dedicated to serving the general interest of The Gambia. Politicking is over, we now need to focus on the work to protect and advocate the interest of the Gambian private sector so that it will be the engine of development for the country.”
Fatty advanced accountability and transparency as key factors in his agenda and called on the need to ensure an optimal utilisation of the resources entrusted to them (GCCI) by the public.
He also called the need for the quick possible development of the trade fair centre, saying that “we need to give back to our membership and add value to them and advocate for them because that is why we are there.”
Meanwhile, David Jeng was elected GCCI Youth representative, while Sanna Jassey secured the Banking Position. Sulayman Mboge grabbed the position of director of agriculture, agribusiness manufacturers and exports.
