Gambian journalist wins Media Award in Germany

Nyima Jadama, a Berlin-based Gambian journalist has won the Best African TV Personality of the year award in Germany.

Nyima Jadama received the honour at the second edition of the African community in Germany Award held over the weekend in the city of Eschborn in Frankfurt Am mainly due to her understanding media activities in Germany.

The African Community in Germany Awards was created to recognise outstanding achievements of Africans in different fields across Germany and a way of appreciating their contributions to the German society. 

 “Being awarded the best African TV Personality 2022 is a great step towards my media career, and I am grateful to all the support rendered towards my journey from family, colleagues and friends,” Nyima said, adding that the accolade will motivate her to work harder in spite of the barriers of language and cultural diversity.

The Gambian journalist encouraged her fellow African immigrants, especially women, to never give up and continue to work harder in pursuing their life goals.

Before her departure to Germany, Nyima worked with The Standard newspaper as a freelance reporter, Gambia Info now Gambia Daily, Vibes FM Radio and presented the weekly Biz Talk on GRTS for the Affinity Online Channel.

The Gambian journalist is the current host of a talk show called Nyima’s Bantaba talk show, aired on Alex Berlin Offener Kanal TV, a bilingual German-English TV Talk show that aims to connect migrants, refugees, women and cultures from all diaspora communities across the globe.

She recently founded ‘the Bantaba Academy’ a Media Competence Project for Migrants and Refugees which aims to prepare and pave the way for participants to enter the German media by providing further training and workshops on media and journalism topics, connect them with German media houses for internships, part-time educational training, and scholarships.

“We are currently working on launching the Bantaba Podcast next week, another media project which will focus on the daily lives of migrants / refugees like integration, diversity in the media, women empowerment and so on,” Ms Jadama said.

In 2017, Nyima Jadama participated in a panel discussion with the then German Chancellor Angela Merkel on 'The Importance of higher education for refugee women’ at the Kiron Open Higher Education campus in Berlin.
