The Gambia has performed extremely well in the 2024 Global Expression Report, with a matric score of 74.

With this score, the country is among 10 African countries, which performed remarkably well in the 2024 Freedom of Expression ranking.

Other top performers include; Botswana 76, Ghana 75, South Africa 73, Namibia 72, Zambia 72, Sierra Leone 70 and Liberia 69.

The Global Expression Report (GxR) is an annual look at the right to free expression and information across the world.

The GxR metric tracks freedom of expression across 161 countries via 25 indicators to create a score between 0 and 100 for every country. That score places it in an expression category.

The report also measures how free each and every person is to express, communicate, and participate in society. This includes the freedom to post online, take to the streets, investigate, and access the information needed to keep leaders accountable.  It also measures whether people can do this without fear of harassment, legal repercussions, or violence.
